How green should they be???

One I'm rescuing, friend said he had him about 6 months, says he's really green
healthy and only been feeding lettuce and vitamin supplements? He has a red light
and fluroescent light and 10G tank! My ig "Ziggi" has a very neon green underside, but
the top of him is a brownish green, not bright like I've seen some? Is this normal?
I don't see any skin problems and he seems to run fine and climb OK. Is this from sore sort
of neglect from previous owner or maybe from pet store? What gives them the brownish color?
When I got him, I noticed he had some skin pieces left where he must have just shed, but they
are gone now!
