Only things I can think of is:
pro's....cheaper than plexiglass
cons:increased chance of rostal abrasions, claws ripped out,too much ventilation; doesn't retain heat or humidity well

There ARE ways around the problems with wire mesh tho, just as there are ways around problems w/ a totally enclosed cage (plexiglass)
It all depends on what YOU want....the sky's the limit as far as design...just gotta make sure of a few things like spatial relationships of electrical & other custom features(lamps,humidifiers,fountains,misters etc) to your ig.
I think whether you go with plexi or wire mesh the issue is ...which one is more practical($)for you.
