i used alot of the plastic mesh with iZ's enclosure and now in his room (barrier from the heat source) ... when he was in his enclosure especially, he seemed to really like that he had climbable surfaces everywhere he looked ... (had plexiglass on the outside) ...
plastic is loads easier to work with than wire mesh is + doesn't have sharp edges ...
