If you mentioned it somewhere, I missed it! Do you have a thermometer to check the temp under that basking area? If not, you can pick up one of those stick on kind that go up over 100 at a pet store. You DON'T have to stick it on; you can tape it on inside just below the light and get a reading there. If it's too high, then you'll need to use a lower watt bulb. Then, since you didn't stick it on you can move it over to the cool side and leave it for a bit and get a reading over there. See, depending on the inside temp of your house, you may need more or less heat from a bulb. Can't say if 100W is too high because I don't know how warm your house is right now. You're using a 55 as I recall and a 100w on a 55 in MY house would be too much...this is why a thermometer is a must.
2nd thing....if you have to use canned food, rinse it several times to get as much salt content as you can out of it...even the ones that say "no salt added".
