Fresh is best, frozen 2nd best, canned last (very high in sodium).

Paper towels are fine, but they will probably get torn up/slid around.

If you use that heat pad, you probably should use mulitple newspapers or carpet over it to ensure the glass doesn't heat up too much and cause burns (not pretty on a poor ig)

The rest of your set up sounds pretty cool. Good luck. He will be pretty upset at his new surroundings as igs don't like change, but he'll get over it-- and he'll be so happy that someone is taking such good care of him! (was his last home as caring?)
