In Reply to: Do Iguanas Smell?!? posted by Kim on January 12, 2000 at 15:13:56:
Of course the poop smells, but I keep my cages immaculate so I am speaking about a clean iguana now. My last iguana smelled great-- especially in the hot sun (he smelled like luggage!) I used to love to smell him--but you could only smell him when you were really close with your nose. My latest iguana, Sleestack, who has been given a clean bill of health, has a different odor (not quite as pleasant). I do smell it in the cage-- and slightly on him. It is not really strong, but I have a great sense of smell (not nearly as bad as a dog or ferret). The difference in smells I am guessing could be because this one is from a different region or that he has very strong scent glands compared to my last one. His cage smells a little like a snake den. My bearded dragon smells sometimes after eating crickets (definitely related to his diet). If you keep it clean though, most people will not notice any kind of odor.
