I agree with the distinct odor. If you don't clean the cage and food dish and poop then you will have a very noticeable odor. But other than that it's not bad. Any animal will have an odor. on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a two in the winter because you can't have the windows all the time. (At least in CA.)
