We had just come to the same conclusion! The other night I put some silvadene on the 4 or 5 brittle spikes and right now they are much more flexable. I only used silvadene because the kids had used up all the neosporim(sp), but it worked. Sneakers has 2 basking spots with temp gauges. The hottest one gets between 90-95 and the second about 85-90 degrees. These temps are recorded about 2 inches below the tallest spikes. Of course when everything was built, it was for Sneakers at that size and just estimating for growth. Anyway it has to be some type of drying out due to how well they responded to the cream.
Now trying to figure out how to raise the heat lights a little or lower the basking spots. This is not easy as things were made to be more or less permanent. Take heed, those of you that are building cages...make things flexable for adjustments! Sad thing is I knew this and apparently overlooked.
