Hey Joan ...wanted to post this before I hit the sack....but thought about splintered dried out spikes last night at work...checked in Maders, Hatfields, Messoniers..nothing....Well I concluded that for an iguana to have the tips dry out like that ....perhaps they are too close to their heat source (basking spot) for too long. Exposure to chronic light and heat for prolinged periods like that is bound to do something to their spikes...right? Don't most of us have temp gauges at about shoulder height...what about the 1-2 inches of dorsal spines? Anyway..just a theory...but I think there may be something to it...not only dehydration but maybe we're cooking our igs spikes too incidentally
