Potty training can be done. If my obstinate Bad Boy can do it, any ig can!

My iguana is about a year and a half old. I just started potty training him a few weeks ago and he hasn't slipped up once! (Bravo for Bad Boy!)

Please, please do not use cat litter. Iguanas taste everything! Their tongue is always on the prowl for things they are not supposed to ingest. Cat litter can cause an impaction which can lead to death.

Initially, I potty trained Bad Boy to go in the bathtub after he warmed us a couple of hours in the morning. He would wake up and I would feed him. Then, I would run water in the bathtub and let him do his thing--literally!

After about a week of climbing up and down the stairs, I decided to train him to the shower. No problem. He poops religiously when I put him in there. (I still bathe and soak him daily, though.)

It was very hard trying to decide what to tell him when he had done the right thing.....I couldn't say "Good Boy" because his name is Bad Boy! What to do? I decided "Good poop!" worked well. He beams with pride when I tell him that now!

Please do not use sand, litter, bark, or other small substrate to potty train or line the cage. Your ig can be trained to newspaper, an empty cat litter pan, the bathtub,....just about anywhere, really.

Good luck on your training.

Thumper
