Well let me tell you right now it will be HARDER to start off with a baby.

First of all baby iguanas are not tame, they take up to a year to calm down. During that time they will bite you, whip you, and scratch you and bascially act like they hate you.

Secondly an adult, while it may have "big" teeth, is already most likely tame, but just needs a good home.

I adopted my FIRST iguana Roxy, she is four feet long and was the same size when I got her. She has not bitten me, or whipped me, EVER.

You can adopt adult iguanas that are good for first time owners by just taking the time and patience to talk to the Rescue operation and see which adult iguana would best suit you.

Not only that, babies are not potty trained, they need constant supervision when let out, and can get into some hard to reach places.
Adults, while needed supervision, don't hate you like a baby iguana would and can be easier to keep an eye on, also some iguanas that you can adopt are already house trained.

Because people like you keep supporting pet stores and iguana "breeders" more and more baby iguanas are bought, and more and more end up negelected. Not to say you would harm one, but you buying one means the petstore has a reason to sell more to uneducated buyers. Hence the reason so many on this forum spend almost all their time taking care of adult iguanas that were bought as "babies" If people would STOP buying baby iguanas the petstores would stop selling them, and iguanas would stop getting abused.

And think twice that starting with a "baby" will be easier. You are wrong.

Think what you will, but just let me thank you for making an already HUGE problem worse by supporting the sale of baby iguanas.

Marisa
