I would like to second Marisa's comments. I was given 'Boris' in college from a friend of a friend who could no longer handle the 3ft+ male iguana. He was over a year old and although I had no prior desires to own an iguana I agreed to take him. I was ill prepared but learned to care for my rapidly growing 'friend' quite quickly with info from books I bought and info collected over the internet. I soon had my dad building me a 6ft x 6ft x 3ft enclosure which takes up a whole room for itself, for my little boy. I have now had him for over 5 years and he has reached 4ft 9in. snout to tail length. I have stuggled to provide him with the proper diet as the variety of fruits and veggies needed to maintain a proper balance for these animals are not commonly available in all supermarkets. I would highly suggest to ANYONE wanting the companionship of a little green iguana to look for an unwanted one to adopt and I would love for petstores to not sell one single one more. To be quite frank these 'pets' do not belong in one's livingroom, bedroom, den etc... they belong in the countries where they are born to be wild animals and to live and feed on the things natural to them. If it meant my Boris would have to be taken from me after five years to be returned to his homeland I would gladly give him up, but sadly for him he will never know the joy of the life he should have been born into thanks to the evils of petstores!
