In Reply to: Help! My baby ig lost almost all his toes and the vets are stumped! posted by Tori on December 27, 1999 at 21:16:26:
Hi Tori & Welcome!
First off ...how old is the ig?..His toes looked different? How so? Toes fell off... At what point? involving just claws, joints, all the way to base? Retained shed? Any blood or noticeable injury? were his toes black (necrotic). Is the vet a herp vet? ALL front claws are affected? What did the vet recommend? Was bloodwork on your iglet done?
Could be trauma of some sort, burned, caught in something, or bacterial infection. Stumped too. Malnutrition may have created a stressed immune system then bacterial infection. I'd have your iglet checked out by someone more familiar with iguanas for a more thorough work up. Link to ARAV (reptile vets)below...just names & addresses may need directory assistance. Good luck & keep us posted wish I knew what the heck was going on with your little guy.
