I have both dogs and iguanas (and bearded dragons). I should also say all my animals are rescues so they came with some problems of their own first.

In my opinion, once you get the basics down (proper feeding and supplimentation, proper lighting, proper housing, etc. and you get your routine going, they are definitely easier than dogs. My iguanas go to the bathroom once a day. My dogs go out every 4-6 hours all day/rain or shine or snow. My iguanas free roam and tend to stay to themselves and do not fight. My dogs can get testing and nasty with each other.

I have an iguana with a big sense of humor. She was what I call a "Houdini" iguana - always breaking out of her cage. Now that I trained her to go to the bathroom in the tub, I took the door of her cage and she *grin* stays in her cage. She also lets me know when she does not like her treats by throwing the food at me. And she LOVES to scare my son by hiding on the back of our green leather couch.

I have found the iguanas to be rewarding pets. I have a vet who LOVES iguanas and is an invaluable resource not only for care but for care advice. This is essentially.

I will say that I have only adult iguanas and only NICE adult iguanas. I cannot handle the nasty ones but I have two large females and a small male that are absolute LOVES.

I love my dogs too and they bring a different sense of joy to my life. But I have found that the iguanas understand me just as much - if not more at times - then then dogs do.

Good luck!
