We brought Nirvans (the Ig) to the vet yesterday. She had x-rays (2) and we discovered that she had readsorbed the eggs. BUT, she had obstructions in her stomach. Apparently the Pascalite (a theraputic form of Bentonite clay that kills bacteria and fungus, etc.) had formed into lumps the equavalent of pottery. She was given olive oil by tube down her throat and injected fluids. later she passed a couple of the lumps. We are still waiting for the rest, and for her appitite to return. She has plenty of heat (I believe a little over 90F during the day), UVB, and gets calcium you mentioned.

>I am petty new at this egg laying business so I don't know if I will be of much help or not. I am taking care of a 6 year old female that is getting ready to lay her eggs. Up until this year she had stoped eating before she was going to lay her eggs. This year she is being a major pig - eating 1 - 2 full plates of greens a day. The only major difference between my place and where she was staying is that the temps in the room that she is kept now is always above 80 degrees. I have also noticed that if the temps are up to about 85 degrees, my male will eat twice as much as he normally does (they don't share the same cage). You didn't mention the temps that you are keeping yours in - so I am taking a shot in the dark to see if this will help.

>Linda (the female's mom) said that she can tell when Guanna was going to lay by watching her belly. I guess that you can see the eggs bulging from their belly a couple of days before they are ready to lay. I have had Linda over at least once a week to check Guanna to see if she was ready. I am such a worry wart. By the size of her, I would have guessed that she was going to lay them at least a month ago. Guanna usually lays around Christmas time so we have a couple of more weeks before we have to really start worrying.
