are they *bad* pets??? no, i wouldn't say that ... but *yes*, they are *much* more difficult to take good care of than a dog or a cat! igs don't ever get 'tame' the way dogs/cats, tho they *do* get socialized enough to 'put up with' their humunz ... usually ...

are they worth it??? well, it depends on who you ask ... i know people who don't even think dogs should be allowed in the house ... all of us here on this forum certainly think igs are worth it or we wouldn't be such worry-warts about stuff *grin* ...

you're doing the right thing by wondering tho! please continue to ask questions + do some research before adopting an ig ...

igs get *big* and they get that way *fast* ... *all* igs have the potential to reach 5-6 feet in length, there are NO 'mini-iguanas'!
(iZ was 2.5 feet when i met him and was 5 feet long 2 years later ~ so you need to plan on your ig getting that big and figuring out where/how you're gonna keep him ... iZ has his own room, btw ... PLUS free-roam time every day ...

ps. iZ has been with me not quite 3 yrs now and he has totally stolen my heart! he snuggles with me more than my dwarf bunny EVER has + he is simply *the best*!!! but ... igs are definitely *not* for everyone ...

here's a couple of really excellent places to start reading about igs ... come back + ask any + all questions you may have ... there are NO silly questions!!!

best wishes + good luck!!!
