So this person is not too deep in biochemics.
Purines stem from the degradation of proteines (eg Tryptophan and histidine degradation) as well as from the degradation of nucleic acids 82 of the 4 DNA Bases belong to the Purine family).
Animal cells are much more rich in proeteines and (due to smaller cell size and higher RNA content) nucleic acids. So they are a significant source of purines. Call it proteines, call it purines...its all the same thing: degradation of ingredients of animal cells interfere with the metabolism of uric acid and hence cause kidney and liver problems if any organism is overfed with animal cells. What "overfeed" means depends on the organism. Those adapted to deal with high amounts of living prey tolerate quite a lot and those adapted to plant food tolerate very little.
All field research which I know about revealed that green igs are STRICTLY herbivorous. Not only in the stomachs of hundreds of adults but also in those of a wealth of juveniles researchers found very little animal matter. Over 90% of things found were leaves or other plant stoff rich in dietary fibers. Even fruit matter was not very abundant.
So Igs in the wild obviously donīt eat a considerable amount of living prey and hence their digestive system has to be expected to be adapted to low protein, low nucleic acid diet.
I will never understand, why so many people are just ignoring these facts. Any parrot will love salty potato chips-which will rapidly kill it. Any dog will love to eat cake...nobody doubts that that would not be apt feeding...but for igs peolpe still love to believe what their grand pas did not know better, but which has been outdated by careful research quite some time ago!
