What do most of you do at warmer times of the year to guarentee free roaming iguanas get their UVB?
<<<<<
My trustworthy mature female green iguana, Sammy, goes outside to a semi-enclosed brick porch to sunbathe whenever she wants to. Or she goes next to a window that I leave open for hours and hours of sunbathing. She is completely freeroaming and I trust her completely. It is great because I can leave the upstairs window open and she will bask for hours, and gets a lot of sun this way all year round (we live in sunny southern cal).
My younger girl, baby Sapphire, I do not trust next to an open window, even to this day. I have seen her trying to "nose rub" or push out of the window before, and she is 3.5lbs and could potentially break the window screen if she really wanted to. She is too small to go outside and sunbathe on my porch by herself, and I am not 100% sure she would decide to come back in either, especially if she saw something she wanted to investigate. She *loves* the outdoors and just might wander off. What I do with her is, allow her to sunbathe in my office when the morning sun comes in everyday, while I read or check email, etc. The point is, I watch her while she is sunbathing next to the window screen. The downside is, she does not get nearly as much sun as Sammy gets. But even 2 hours per week is better than sitting under a Uv lamp 10 hours every day of the week.
Best of luck!!
