actually, reducing the absorption rate of phos., increases the absorption rate of calcium ... it does accelerate loss of vitamin D (+ so potentially calcium) + vit. D supplementation is recommended (in human peds patients) ...

will jot down the names of my reference books when i'm back at work tomorrow + let you know ... both Ped. ICU textbooks and our pharmacology books indicate Amphojel specifically for use in ped. renal patients to lower phos ... (text book even has a recipe for Ampho. cookies! yech) ... text + pharm. sources specifcally recommend use of oral mineral oil to offset the constipating effects of the Ampho. ~ mineral oil because it is not absorbed, so no extra chemicals passing thru the kidneys ... we use Ampho. frequently in the ICU ...
