actually, reducing the absorption rate of phos., increases the absorption rate of calcium ... it does accelerate loss of vitamin D (+ so potentially calcium) + vit. D supplementation is recommended (in human peds patients) ...

ICU textbooks and our pharmacology books indicate Amphojel specifically for use in ped. renal patients to lower phos ... (text book even has a recipe for Ampho. cookies! yech) ... text + pharm. sources specifcally recommend use of oral mineral oil to offset the constipating effects of the Ampho. ~ mineral oil because it is not absorbed, so no extra chemicals passing thru the kidneys ... we use Ampho. frequently in the ICU ...
