Hi All,
I'm going to post this in several places and mail to a few people requesting feed back, any thoughts you might have will be welcome.
Background: Xaveir, 10-12 years old, was on a high protein diet (cat and dog food) with some vegetables up until his 5th year. Since I've had him, he's been on a diet consisting of primarily greens, vegetables, and fruit. Portions are consistent with current thinking. Five months ago his appetite became much reduced and he has ate 2-3 ounces a day since. His weight has dropped from 9lb to 7.3. His stools are small and hard.
I have recently had blood work done and this is where I need help interpreting the results. The Vet I am using has limited experience but is seeking outside consultation. All of the work has not come back from the lab and we are in the early stages of trying to diagnose and treat the problem.
The CPK is 7219 with a lab standard of 400. Dr. K, using experience gained with mammals, thinks this is due to muscle trauma of some sort. I have done some research using Mader's book and think that such a high level would also likely indicate kidney problems. This seems especially likely to me considering his former husbandry.
Phosphorous is 3.8 with a lab standard of 5-8. Neither of us sees a reason for alarm here.
Albumin 2.3 with a lab standard of 1-1.6. This elevation may be attributed to some dehydration.
Total Protein 7.6 with a lab standard of 3.3-3.5. The thought here is that the increase may be caused from the elevated level of Albumin.
Urea Nitrogen was low but I don't have exact results.
Uric Acid was normal but again I don't have the figures. Dr. K feels that these two would normally indicate proper kidney function.
Glucose 186 with a lab standard of 140. Neither of us feels this is alarming.
The rest of the results will not be back until Monday. Any thoughts you may have concerning interpretation, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis would be appreciated.
Thanks, Johnny/Iguana03
