it puts out HOT steam ... ever try to hold your hand against one of those things for any length of time??? it *WILL* result in *severe* burns!
never, never never assume your ig is smart enough to *not* lay too close to *any* kind of heat source!!!! it's not that they're dumb, it's that they don't register things like heat as quickly as mammals do and by the time they realize it's too hot, they can have a really nasty burn ...
same as with hot rocks ~ it is just NOT WORTH THE RISK!

walmart + other places have cool mist humidifiers for like $25 ... MUCH safer for use in reptile environments (AND for human use, IMHO) ... if spending the money just isn't an option right now (boy, do i understand THAT!) try placing a big pan of water in the ig's enclosure instead, it will help increase the humidity by evaporating .... also daily warm tub soaks and/or misting your ig will help too ... especially important now that many of us have the furnace on and the air is drier than usual!
