:Donīt worry,but donīt bleach,
Any disinfection method harbours risks for your lizards and you still wonīt ever get anything really sterile unless you have an autoclav (huge for the branches) or bake the branches over night at 160°C. On the other hand, there are A LOT of germs, spores etc around in
any place, including your Igs cage, which will be always far from being a sterile environment. Moreovr, reptile parasiotes are in most cases quite host
specific. Of course there are general pathogens, but as long as your branch was not taken from an area which was extemely dirty or if it was covered with
feces, there is nearly no risk of taking branches from outside. They wonīt harbour too much new germs in comparison to those already present in your tank.
I am a herper since 30 years and I always use branches from outside without any sterilization process. I never (yes) had any infection of my herps due to
this. Nor I had problems with parasites.
On the other hand, you will never be able to completely disinfect any wood without having an autoclav or putting it over night at 170°C. Disinfectants often
harbour many more risks for herps health than "DIRTY" branches.
