I just wanted to quickly let people know that there is some encouraging news with respect to Elmo, the sick desert iguana.
I got a phone call last night from his owner who was ecstatic to see Elmo up and about in his cage yesterday. He was moving around for quite a while and even nibbled at some veggies.
She had not been giving Elmo any calcium supplements or UV light - which has resulted in slight tremors in his back legs. As of the weekend, Elmo has had a UV light on him and is now getting regular calicum supplements. She is also treating him for dehydration many times a day and it seems to be working.
We have opted not to hibernate Elmo as he is just not strong enough or have enough meat on him. He is quite emaciated with a lot of skin folds. We want to bulk him up, get the calcium in him and make sure he is set for next year.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their emails and words of encouragement! By no means is Elmo out the of the woods yet, but it is an encouraging sign!
