I buy that lizzard litter stuff, and have it in a litter box for my female. She marches over to her little box whenever she's got to go, and does her little business.
My male has that in his cage (on the bottom only), but still uses the second shelf constantly (I have three shelves, some branches, etc.). Haven't been able to convince him to use the litter yet, but still trying - sometimes he goes through phases where he will.
So - bottom line, maybe your IG is trainable if you're lucky, maybe not. Techniques: Keep some of the feces in there until the next go around, then remove some, just leaves hints/traces. That way they'll associate an area for that. If it's the wrong area, then move their droppings to the area you do want them to go...
