yep to Yvette's post ... lots of patience, perseverence and consistancy ...

it helps alot that older igs (usually) only poop once a day and (usually) about the same time of day ... AND it's pretty obvious WHEN they're gonna go ...

iZ is tub-trained ... when he was small enough to still fit in an enclosure, he did NOT like to poop in it ... he'd go in the early evening and then want OUT NOW so i could clean up ... so i started putting him in the tub (or other designated area) about the time of day when he usually wanted to go ... it took a while for him to figure it out ... but if you time it right, the urge to go is gonna be great and your ig's gonna HAVE TO go ...

as soon as iZ 'assumed the poop position', i'd start praising him ... "goooooood iZ ... go bathroom" and repeated 'go bathroom' like a chant ... yes, he thought i was NUTS!! but he learned what 'go bathroom' means and figured it out pretty quick ... teaching him the words has helped when he's been kinda constipated and didn't really want to go ... i tell him 'go bathroom' and he knows i want him to at least TRY to go ...

if anything, i think it was easier to train iZ than it's been to train the puppy and rabbit! it helps that they don't usually have to go multiple times a day!
