I agree with the sentiments below that it will stress him far worse to be without you. Mine hated moving as we all know they hate change, but he was still with me. He would have hated moving in with someone else just the same if not more (because he is used to Mom and everything Mom does). If you have to give him up for the other reasons, I understand, but He will miss YOU.
