I completely agree about not buying them at least for the store to make a profit. HOWEVER, you negative people, I'm not capable of standing by while they die off. I am contacting the regional manager and offering to take them all at his cost, with the warning that I have already contacted the OR Humane Society Animal Abuse Investigative department and will be writing to the OR Dept of Agriculture about this and previous similar situations at this same store, and that if he will not give them to me at cost, I will be all over them documenting the decline and deaths of the igs and reporting all to the Dept of Ag. As for finding homes for them, that is something I am very familiar with, having been a rescuer of animals for over 30 years (just not iguanas in particular till today), so I'm not going into this naively. Had hoped for some more creative advice, perticularly from NIAD. Hey, maybe you all can get some ideas from my handling of this situation! Sorry to sound terse, you know its the situation that's got me upset.

: Hi Laura!
: I know the temptation to 'save' these little guys
: is very hard to resist... but as Harry's dad says...
: all you will be doing is encouraging them to buy
: more who will most likely end up exactly the same!
: It can be very hard to walk away and know they will
: die... but it is the *only* was to make an impact
: on the store to get them to discontinue to carry
: iguanas. I feel for you and I know *exaclty* how
: you feel! I hate seeing all the snakes in their
: water bowls (because they probably have mites) and
: the igs on bad substrate being fed bad food... makes
: me cry. Please, don't buy them! Besides the fact,
: you would probably not be able to give them all a
: home because of their housing size requirements, much
: bigger than WDs, and you probably couldn't adopt
: them out.. there are so many already waiting for
: good homes... and most rescue/shelters are full.
: Sad but true... you do have a good heart!
: Take care and as hard as it is, try not to look at
: them anymore.
