Carrie....check out Glenn Merrill's website on cage designs(link below)...he has alot of links to outdoor & indoor enclosures both commercial & custom made. For troubleshooting advice tell EJ about the Caging Forum here at Kingsnake. Both my igs used to be free-roamers...but now they're both caged. The set-up I had was Juana got the front room on top of a 7 ft high wall unit with a wooden ladder she used to climb up and down. I had the uvb hood mounted on the ceiling and a basking spot wall mount. She loved being so high but a few times she freaked me out climbing straight up the vertical bookshelf ends truly amazing ...Feo had the top of my armoire in my room with a wall mount basking spotlight (like those outdoor floodlight type mounts) and the uvb hood suspended from the ceiling with chainlink. He also had about a five foot ladder to get up & down and sometimes just slid down the side of it the nincumpoop! Neither one got consistent humidity which led to them having to be caged.Free roaming is advocated because igs are so big and most people don't have the space for a large enough enclosure. But the downsides are that igs are notorius climbers, and the risk of salmonella transmission on carpet, furniture fibers, susceptible to diseases because of increase injury, or improper husbandry like in my situation poor humidity.Ya also have to potty/tub train your ig right away otherwise your bed, sofa, coffee table make for some good target practice mine would have accidents (?) when strangers would come over, one of em was pissed at me, or they were stressed out about something.Ya gotta do what's best for your situation, enviroment. You can set up a basking shelf near a window so they can stay amused watching things going on outside. There's so many options...you can have em free roam most of the time and cage them at night...whatever works. Let me know what ya find out from the vet. I think about T-Rex often and what the vet has to say about the D3 thing.
