iguana relative?

At a Ren Faire a few weeks ago I saw a lizard that looked almost exacty like an iguana. The man who owned at told me what the species' name is, but I'm n ot sure I remember his words correctly. I think he told me it was a close relative of the iguana called a South American Water Dragon. Is this correct? Or am I way off base. I was quite taken with the critter and am interested in finding out more about them (I won't have a pet like this until I'm sure I can provide it with a good home). Anyone with information on this - please let me know. Thanks.
