: this filters the sun and loses the good effect of the sun on my iguana. Is it true?
Exactly correct. Glass filters out UVB and the Iguana gets ZERO benefit.
: What should I do? Leave the cage like this or buy special lights?
Go purchase a ZooMed ReptiSun 5.0 or IguanaLight 5.0 and an aquarium reflector hood. The fixtures sold as reptile lights cost almost twice as much (at least here in central Maryland). Make sure you remove from the fixture any glass between the bulb and the tank. The light should be no more than 18 inches from the iguana, 10-12 inches is ideal.
Best to put the tank on a household timer (about $5 at WalMart) for 12 hours on and 12 hours off. Replace the bulb every 6-9 months.
Also, make sure your heat gradient is correct. Should be 95 at the basking spot, dropping to no less than 80 on the cool side. And remember that unless this is a HUGE tank, he/she will outgrow whatever tank you have him/her in in a matter of months.
