Lights over the cage of my iguana?

The guy who sold me my iguana told me that if my iguana (Orestes we call him or her)receives the sun or the light through a glass, this filters the sun and loses the good effect of the sun on my iguana.

Is it true? becuase Orestes is near a big window and have always light and I haven't put special lights over the cage. What should I do? Leave the cage like this or buy special lights?
