I am a little confused. Who actually owns this sick iguana? If the school does, aren't they governed by the same husbandry laws that we are? Can't you call in the authorities to MAKE them take proper care of this iguana? Or at least accept your offer to take him to a vet?

Trying to treat this iguana on your own, especially if you do not own it, can open yourself up for a lot of legal problems. I know you probably do not want it to suffer, but what is to keep the school from going after you if the iguana dies saying that your treatment killed it? And they could just as easily get another iguana and do it all over again. If the authorities get involved, they the SCHOOL has to face ITS responsibility. And you only have access to a limited amount of drugs and/or medications that are over-the-counter and the iguana may need more intensive therapy.

It might be worth your while to see if there is any legal way to force the school to live up to its legal responsibility with this animal. Just like a pet store or a zoo, they have to take proper care of any animals in their possession.

Just a thought. I know the legal wheels turn slowly and it is hard to watch even one animal suffer, but better one than 10 because if you care for this animal yourself, what is to keep the school for getting 10 more iguanas and keeping them improperly thinking that you will care for them as well. If they are held responsible, they might not get another iguana.
