Igs shed their spikes...they look opague/translucent just like skin shed. Sometimes the old spike casing (shed) is resistant to come off. It doesn't mean that your iguana is dehydrated. If the spike is tuff to come off....yes like Cirsisue says massage KY, any oil even olive oil, baby oil....at the base and gently massage to work it loose. Sometimes if its super resistive to give may take a few days warm compresses more oil massages...but they will give eventually. If left on... the old casing strangulates the new spike underneath and you get a wavy, curly or splintered looking spike. Spikes do grow back but takes forever, once damaged from strangulation or trauma always seem like they stay that way...do not straighten out/remain splintered at the top.

Every ig is different hers are curled! maybe no one ever helped her to shed off the dead casings too. In the wild they're aways rubbing against branches and leaves that help get em off. We gotta do it for em
