As the original poster, I need to clarify my position on the topic. My daughter and I also keep snakes, some of them very large snakes (african rocks and burms). We have small breeding colonies of rats and mice as a food source for our snakes and we also buy prekilled. We feed only prekilled food so the issue with me is not the "thrill of the chase". We've had rats that we considered pets. I would never think of feeding one of these pets to one of the snakes. Because I keep several iguanas as pets and because I don't generally think of iguanas as a prey item for snakes I found the post on the boa forum appalling.
