More recent research data revealed that the amount of D3 actually needed to provide proper growth and maintenance of an ig is not higher than 50 IU per week and kg animal. Although tenfold overdosing is still not really dangerous with all these D3 supplementzs on the market its really easy to overdose. So I always recommend to give D3 supplement only twice a week and calculate the number of IU you need. If you use an oily suspension of D3 the above mentioned values are OK. If you only use D3 powder, you may need more: Between 100 and 500 IU per week and kg animal. Independently fro m D3 calcium should always be given and cannot be overdosed if there´s no excess dietary D3.
