Just got back from a nursing update class and instructor mentioned furocoumarins...and its contraindications with certain medications. Well...the instructor went on to say that pts MUST avoid these types of foods .... parsnips, parsley, carrots, fennel, cilantro because loaded with furocoumarins & they cause photosensitivity, and can lead to a hypertensive crisis...Im daydreaming as usual and think about iguanas right..came home checked out furocoumarins at the Cornell site....came across this as related to herbivores and found it interesting and it sort of explains the effect uv radiation has on herbivores (cattle) fed furocoumarins.Iguanas I would think have an even greater sensitivity to these phytochemicals and wonder if parsnips are something we should be giving our iguanas on a daily basis especially since they're out in the sun. Are you still awake? lol just thought it was interesting...maybe you will too
