I would make the cage wood or (solid) on at least 3 sides with a plexiglass front for viewing. You can cut a ventilation area on the top of one side in the wood and the bottom of the other. Then use the plastic coated hardware clothe (screen) over the ventilation areas. I would make the top solid as well and mount the lighting (UVB and heat) 12 inches above basking areas. With most of the cage totally enclosed you won't need to much in the way of heat. The cage should retain the heat fairly well. It your in a warm climate, florida for example, you can make the ventilation areas covered by screen larger for better ventilation. Make the cage as large as you possibly can, it will last longer.
