Just got back from the greatest vet I've ever found. He spent almost an hour of his time with me and my Iggy. He was both reassuring and informative. I was very impressed. He was also impressed with my own knowledge and I told him of this site which he said he would check often seeing as I have all you guys to thank for alot of what I now know. However, the news about her tail is good. After a thorough full body exam, he felt that it was not dry gangrene but rather a band lesion due to skin that should have shed that didn't. Because only a small section at the tip appeared this way he felt confident that surgery to remove it was an unnecessary expense for me and why take a tail and stress her out if you don't have to. The tail was both pliable and not really hard as gangrene usually is. When he sloughed off some skin there, it appeared healthy underneath. he gave me Kerasolv to treat the area and cautioned me watch it closely. The worst case senario being, in a couple of weeks it takes on a gangrene appearance and THEN we remove it. The fact he felt it would be dishonest to do this surgery now told me alot about this mans integrity. He handled my ig with such care and has himself been raising Igs since the age of 11. If anyone lives in the NY/NJ tristate area I HIGHLY recommend this vet. If you email me I'll give you all his info.
Sorry to ramble on but...I'm just so thrilled.
Thanx for all your past support and advice.
