Through personal experience (with our iguana not myself LOL), I would go ahead and take her to the herp vet. He/She will take off the bad and in to the good to be certain to get it all. There should be no sutures. Then your ig should get an injection of (normally) Baytril followed by oral dosage at home. Ours was on it 10 days followed by 5 additional doses a day apart.

Our ig had a dry area like what you described for years. In fact, she had it when we got her as a baby and long before we had web access and knew what we know now. It never got any bigger/longer; never bothered her. So we thought it was nothing and not true dry gangrene maybe since it never spread....then last summer it fell off after she gave her tail a really good thwack. Thought this was the end of the trouble.

Nope, this summer I noticed that her tail tip looked bad again...about a week later it seemed to have crept up even more. Got her to the vet and he did as I described to you. It had already started making her sick according to blood work up. I think we got her help in the nick of time re blood poisoning. So you see it can suddenly become a real threat after being dormant...and that was truly scary to us.

If I had only had them take off that little bit way back when OR had taken her in and gotten them to cut back in to the good last summer to be sure it was all gone, she would not have lost so much of her tail this summer (approx. 6 inches). Now it has a good chance of growing back....those that just drop off don't always grow back.

Sorry to be so long....but having dealt with it I thought I could be helpful if I was thorough :o)
