Chris... expect about 9-12 months to tame your ig...and even when ya got him/her tame...expect lots of set-backs and starting all over again kind of feelings! With babies ya got to go real slow...cuz they stress out easily. Holding approx. 20 minutes a day then upping it 10 minutes every two weeks. Make sure your ig has a hidebox...they really love it/need it when their babies. I would put a human heating pad under ($13.oo at Walgreens) set on low underneath the hidebox.
RE: scratches....yep...expect em! lol...the best thing to do is arm yourself ;o) After clipping the tiny little hook on their claws..you will STILL get scratched up altho not razor sharp more like thicker scratches you'll bleed just the same....so..long sleeved sweatshirts, I cut off old tube socks and have them covering my wrists & they protect my forearms. These work best...may need gloves to protect fingers in case ig mistakes fingers for lunch ;o)...Scratches are inevitable I would say with any ig you handle they just think yer a big ole tree branch!...so its best to make sure your protected when handling them...tame or not!
