Hi, Leslie
Yep, most definately sounds like MBD. Excellent that you are giving her sunshine! That will help her a lot. Aside from that, naturally, she needs a high calcium diet. Give her lots of leafy greens like mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens, collards, endive, as well as good veggies like butternut squash and green beans. I suggest you suppliment her food once a day with a light sprinkling of calcium carbonate. You can get this from the pet store (I like the brand HerpCare), or simply crush a few tums. Another option would be calcium glubionate syrup, which you can buy in a pharmacy as NeoCalglucen. And, yes, most definately take her to a vet. There is a great deal that a vet can do for an iguana with MBD (well, a reptile vet can, anyhow). If the MBD is bad enough, calcium injections will be in order, and will work much faster. A vet would be a great help. Where are you located in California? There are lots of good reptile vets around in that state. Someone can direct you to a good one.

Here are two urls where you can find a great deal of information about MBD. Just highlight them and cut them and paste them into your web browser. Good luck! Keep us informed!

Best,
Jamie/JBug

Hope these help!

: Hi all,
: I was given a beautiful ig from a friend of a friend of a friend. She's about a year with perfect long spikes and lots of pretty blue in her face. Her problem is that she can't really climb or even walk very well. The first week I had her she just dragged herself along. Her toes are very soft and her front legs look swollen and hard. She's getting stronger with a healthy diet and lots and lots of basking in the real CA sunshine. She now picks herself up a bit more when she walks. Is this MBD?? Is it reversable from this stage? Can a vet do anything more for her?? Sorry about all these questions. She's the most beautiful ig I've ever seen. (but don't we all say that about our babies?) I just want to see her climb and run!!
: Thanks!!
: Leslie.
