I recently stumbled into a way of having pet stores be very receptive to your ideas. Its so basic that I can't believe I hadn't done it before. We have a pet store, Pet Country, and they were selling igs. 4 to 5 igs in a big 100 gal tank, water fall, UVB light, two heat lamps, things to climb on and good looking salad. On the outside of the tank was instructions for making the salad, which was correct, the proper temp range, and how large they got. Shocked at all the proper information, I stayed around till I could talk with the manager. I complimented her on everything they were doing. We talked for a while and then she mentioned feeding them crickets. I told her about animal protein being a no no and she said she didn't realize. They would stop that immediately and not tell the customers anymore about crickets. It was extremely productive and she was very receptive to any other ideas.
By complimenting her on everything they were doing right, it put her at ease and she was very receptive to anything else. I tried that theory at another pet store and it worked as well. Take a look at what they are doing right and compliment them (honestly) on those points. Pick out what you think is the one or two things that need to be changed immediately and only bring up those issues. It does seems to work. I have been back to both stores and the improvements were made. Whats that old saying, you can get more flys with honey than you can with vinager. Of course, these were not large chains.
