Hi, Penny!
I'm so glad to hear that the spay went well! I was wondering last night if you had had it done yet or not. Got two quick questions and a hint for you.
Question 1: Did your vet remove the ovaries when she spayed her? If not, there is the danger that she would still be producing eggs and have problems next time. This happened to a great member of our forum, Haken, with his two female, Lizzy and Rex. Most herp vets these days *do* remove the ovaries, but I just thought I'd check.
Question 2: Did your vet use stitches or staples when she 'sewed' the incision?
Hint: If you put some Neosporin (or polysporin, like Gina suggested, or any other kind of triple anti-biotic ointment) over the incision, and then cover it with this stuff called "Second Skin" (human pharmacy, burn stuff), it will make a doubly protective outer seal that will keep the ointment in and help keep the 'nasties' out. This is particularly handy if you are going to take her outside for some sun, and she'll be walking on the grass. :)
And yeah, she should be refrained from climbing (well, at least climbing anything that is steeply vertical or a long climb) for at least 3-4 weeks. The wound won't be healed with enough stability around the stitches or staples, and will likely pull out. Lovely, huh? :)
Good luck to the both of you!
Best,
Jamie/JBug
