Not messing with Mom's ancient secrets but you might want to pay the 99 cent store a visit and get 2 "lettuce or salad keepers" I cut off the thickest part of the stems ,fold up the leaves and voila...in the fridge they go!
Loose leaf lettuce ...hmmm don't know any other name for it...but pretty good ca:p ratio I give it a headbob up!
Endive/chickory....I guess its one and the same...USDA database doesn't list chickory.Neither does my nutrition book :o(
