The hysteria about using lettuces is diminishing quite a bit especially with books like Hatfields and Maders condoning it huh?. Lettuces like iceberg or romaine altho not as nutrient dense especially in calcium are like a 1:1 ca:p ratio (a neutral or nothing food)...and are perfectly ok to add to a calcium rich green salad...but only as an addition to calcium rich greens. Lots of water and yeah Id offer it to em to increase the water for dehydration...I added 1/4 a head of chopped iceberg lettuce the other day to Juana & Feos salad (collards, total cereal, spaghetti squash and papaya)....they finished the whole pan! Usually they leave quite a bit. So it definately got their vote!
I won't do this all the time of course but they seemed to love it. Poopie wasn't runny either...yesterday. So...yeah try it! Anything to get them to take their meds, entice them to eat...I say go for it. In Maders quite a bit written by Susan Donoghue about giving lettuce to iguanas. It is perfectly acceptable but not to be used as primary food source or as a complete diet.
