Hi Steven! Just wanted to be among the many welcoming you to the Kingsnake iguana forum, you've landed in a great place full of good people! Congrats on the new little green guy or girl -enjoy the little part because it won't stay that way for long, they can grow to be longer than 6 feet in captivity (from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail also known as stl).
Everyone has give you great info so far, no canned ig food, plenty of fresh greens, veggies and fruits, no animal protein, good UV exposure, etc. I bet you never thought there was going to be so much to learn!! My hubby (Mr D) and I have been at this (learning about iggys) for quite some time (15 years) and we learn something new almost every day! This forum is a great place for that! We pick up new tips and tricks frequently.
Since you won't know, unless you have the iguana probed by a QUALIFIED veterinarian or herpetologist, the sex of your iguana for a few more years don't be surprised if an assumed he lays eggs one day or an assumed she turns out to be a he! Iguanas can be difficult to sex! What is your iguana's name? Woud be nice to have something to call him/her!
Good luck with your new friend! As everyone else said, feel free to ask questions anytime!
