Last night, Desiree made a house call to our house to assess Ryu's irregular scales that all of you tried to help me with. Well, the nite before, I tweezed away the lump o' scales & lo & behold, the flattened scales underneath looked almost normal.Well, Desiree, the iguanalama, deduced that Dr. Rosskopf was probably correct in his initial diagnosis, which was possible trauma to that area.I initially told him that couldn't be, but a couple weeks later, I observed Ryu in a tight squeeze on the windowsill between the window & the corner of a marble slab, which matched up perfectly with the irregular scales. It wasn't until 2-4 more scales seemed to be affected that I thought it was a fungus or infection or ?Those disappeared after a couple days of silvadene, for ? reason.I never thought I'd meet anyone who TRULY CARES about iguanas as much as Henry Lizardlover, but I was wrong.Desiree probably spent 1 1/2 hours examining Ryu, taking his photo & educating me on his diet & care.I practically had to perform CPR on the poor Iguanalama after I told her I fed Ryu snails.Just before she passed out, I heard her uttering "flukes", "blood panel" "fecal test"& "iguana abuse hotline". When she awakened, she wrote out a diet plan that did not include anything I had in my house nor that sounded the least bit familiar.(yucca root, escarole)(not escargo)She wrote down several websites then continued assessing Ryu.Aha!CBD or was it CAD?You didn't give him enough CALCIUM when he was a baby, DID YOU!Aargh! Then she examined his swollen toe which had gotten caught under a shelf, then I whispered, "Did I tell you he fell out of the window & dropped 2 stories onto cement?"Luckily, her attention was diverted that very second, when she when she noticed Ryu had mouth rot.And I probably should've waited to show her the kink in Ryu's tail from when I accidentally closed the car door on it. The iguanalama began writing frantically: diet, studies to be done, foods to avoid, foods to feed, websites to visit. But, seriously, the bottom line is that she devoted more than 2 hours of her life to educate me in a very non-condescending manner, so that I will know how to ensure that my iguana lives a longer, healthier life. She stressed that she is not a vet, but she has done a lot of research to become informed & she's trying to inform others. And she just loves iguanas. Duh!
