Hiya Ziggy's mom!
I just thought I'd put in my two censt about free roaming. I don't recomend it to beginners, period. I also dont recommend it to people with iguanas under 10" snout-to-vent length. Free roaming is something that is only healthy and OK as long as you make a tireless effort to keep things safe for them. It's like baby-proofing, only more intricate. The iguanas can be potty trained cvery reliably, but it takes effort. You must always immediately clean up any messes made, with sterile solution. I wouldn't recommend allowing an iguana to free roam with dogs, either. One of our males free-roams with a small Lhasa-Apso dog, but the dog in smaller than Bones and has a very large amount of respect for him. One good tail *thwack* took care of that. Still, unless you are very, very relentless about keeping things spotless and sterile, the animals could catch various nasties from each other. Free roaming works well for me because I can control the environment, the iguanas know enough to bask when they are too cool, and I am a "stay-at-home-mom with my iguanas. Free roaming is almost more trouble than it's worth sometimes. It's an individual choice, but please think it through. I hope this helps a little.
Best,
Jamie/JBug
P.S. Check out Marie Eguro's page for some good free-roaming ideas.
