In Reply to: new iguana owner.....need a little help please!!! posted by Steven on May 31, 2001 at 09:27:55:

fresh veggies are the best way to go. Collards, Mustard Greens, Turnip Greens, Dandilion greens are some of the best greens to use as a staple. Then top with veggies such as butternut squash, green beans, snow peas, sweet potatoe....the list goes on. Be sure you finely chop these veggies as your iguana is still very small. Others will leave you links to sites that provide diets so you can check them out.
As far as sexing your ig, it won't happen until your Ig is 18 months or older.
If I were you I'd call that pet store and set them straight about an Iguana's diet. Do all the researching you can because you are in for some surprises if you haven't already done so. This is my favorite forum to come to when I need help. Don't hesitate to ask any questions that may arise but get busy studying! A good book on Iguanas is Mellissa Kaplan's "Iguanas for Dummies" which can be ordered from most any bookstore and sometimes is available at Sam's Club. Good luck in your new adventure and keep us posted on your baby's progress. J
