: I just adopted Ziggy 8 days ago and he is 7 years old. When I handle him I see he is watching me but I get a sense that he is smarter than I give him credit for. Does anyone know how smart they really are? Somewhere I read that they can be "potty trained"? If true, that is pretty sophisticated.
: Anyway, Ziggy is doing great and my son loves to play with him. I am glad we got him as an addition to our home.
Our iguana sleeps with me. I wouldn't admit this in any other forum, but when I'm asleep on my back, Ryu's asleep on my chest. And when I turn over, Ryu does, too. If I stay in bed til noon, Ryu will, too. He's so happy & secure. When he was younger, (he's almost 6yrs), his eyes popped open at the 1st sign of light. He is potty trained, too. He does his thing on command in the bathroom sink. Sometimes I have to run the water to get him in the mood. (I'm sure he pictures himself in the falls in the rain forest). When I'm ready to get out of bed, I take him to the sink.About 6 mos ago he did his thing in my bed & I yelled at him & told him he was BAD! and I made him stay in the bathtub all day.He intentionally went in my bed again, about 1 month ago, & got the same punishment. Once, he had an accident on my pajamas & another time, on the way to the sink, not a punishable offense. He likes to poop when he wakes up, but he'll hold it as long as his head stays covered up or if he's resting on me, comfortably. My son taught me how to recognize the "pre-poop wiggle" & if he's wide awake & ready to go & if I ignore his needs, he'll start into that "pre-poop wiggle" & if he goes, I accept responsibility for that one. He's smart in other ways, too, but I hate to keep bragging. But besides being very smart, he is also very BLIND!He can never find his food & when he's hungry, watch your toes! He's so blind, he starts eating my blanket when he smells food.He tries to eat the plate before he finds the food.
